What a small business website costs.
The honest ranges for the UK in 2026, what pushes a price up, and the running costs that rarely make it into the first quote.
The short answer
For a small local business, a professionally built website in the UK usually costs somewhere between a few hundred pounds and a few thousand, plus a monthly amount to keep it online and up to date. Where you land depends far more on who builds it and what’s included than on how many pages it has.
The three ways to get a site, side by side
These are typical ranges from UK pricing guides published in 2026, alongside our own prices so you can see where we sit.
| Route | Upfront | Ongoing | Who does the work |
|---|---|---|---|
| Website builder (Wix, Squarespace) | £0 | About £16 to £29 a month | You |
| Freelancer | £1,500 to £4,500 | Varies, often extra | One person |
| Small agency | £3,000 to £10,000 | Usually a monthly plan | A team |
| Worksite Studio | £350 or £700 | £150 to £650 a month, optional | Two people, start to finish |
A website builder looks cheapest, but the price leaves out your time: choosing a template, writing every page, sorting the domain and email, and fixing things when they break. For a busy owner, that’s often the most expensive option.
What pushes the price up
- More pages. A page for every service or every town takes more writing and more building.
- Booking, payments and shops. Anything that takes money or manages appointments is real software, and is priced like it.
- Writing and photos. If the designer writes your wording or arranges photography, that’s more work, often charged on top.
- Rounds of changes. Some quotes include unlimited changes and price that risk in. Others include one or two rounds and charge for more.
- Location. London agencies tend to charge more for the same work.
The running costs people forget
The build is a one-off. Keeping a site online is not. Every site needs a domain name, hosting, a security certificate and someone to keep it working. On top of that, most businesses want small changes through the year: new prices, a new photo, holiday hours.
Some designers include this in a monthly plan, some charge per change, and some hand the site over and leave you to it. Ask which before you agree to anything, because it decides what the site really costs over two or three years.
What a fair quote includes
- A fixed price for an agreed number of pages, in writing.
- How many rounds of changes are included, and what happens after.
- When it will be ready, and when the clock starts.
- Who owns the domain and the content. It should be you.
- What the monthly cost covers, and what happens if you stop paying it.
Where our prices come from
We build sites of up to 5 pages for £350 and up to 10 pages for £700, fixed, within 5 working days. Care plans start at £150 a month and are optional: if you’d rather look after the site yourself, we hand over everything free of charge once the build is paid. We can do it for that because we build for local businesses only and keep the process tight. The full breakdown is on our pricing page.
Not sure what your current site is worth keeping? Our free website check tests it the way Google does and tells you what to fix first.
