Artist Statement
Work Site Studio represents examples
of about a decade of work. In the
Gallery there is a series of
abstract and figurative plywood
paintings from about 1999-2004.
Thereafter, a shift toward more
experimental forms began in earnest,
This has evolved over the last six
years. This new work consists of two
types of exploration which
incorporated more mixed media
elements, It is rooted in the
assemblage process and driven by two
related processes: curiosity and
invention.
The first type is a wall-hung and
explores what I call Sitesplitters.
These works are constructed mainly
of plywood and found materials. T
hey are essentially optical devices
which expand visual perception and
allow the viewer to see peripheral
imagery in sharp focus.
In the second type, diverse
materials that range from found
materials to off the shelf items are
adapted and interwoven into mobile
assemblages. These forms incorporate
motion as part of the visual
experience, as shown in the
Video
Gallery. The central goal of this
body of work is to expand these
ideas and discover the often
surprising relationships embedded in
ordinary materials.
